BetaSpot

Log your climbs, find out what everyone else is projecting, and ask for beta from the people who sent it.

Google PlaySoonApp StoreSoon

BetaSpot is a logbook for bouldering that allows you to filter by grade, colour, style, and most importantly: other climbers that match your physical characteristics. Log what you climbed, see what everybody else is projecting, and when you are stuck, ask the people who have already sent it.

This is a passion project to try to help those who always find themselves scrolling Insta or TikTok, trying to find beta videos from someone who matches their height, arm span, or experience level.

Also included: Historical stats & insights, collectible badges, and more to come.

Thanks for checking us out!

Log every climb

A record of your climbing that takes seconds at the wall.

  • The grade the way your gym gives it: V grades, Font, or its own coloured tags.
  • Attempts, sends and flashes. Add sessions to a project as you go back for it, until it finally goes.
  • Photos and video, and style tags for what the climb asked of you.
  • Your attempt sits beside everyone else who logged the same climb, so you can see how it went for them.

Ask for beta

Stuck on a move? Ask the gym.

  • Ask about the exact climb, with its grade, colour and wall.
  • Answers are attempts, with the photos and video to show how it went.
  • Every question shows the height band of whoever asked, and flags the ones where you are built close enough to help.
  • Ask anonymously if you would rather. Other climbers will not see who asked.

See how you are improving

Numbers that come from what you logged, not from a guess.

  • A grade pyramid of everything you have sent, and how your volume moves week to week.
  • How each grade is going month by month, and your flash grade over time.
  • Which styles you gravitate towards, and which you avoid.
  • An optional strength test that points to the grade your strength suggests, and which test is holding the rest back.

Beta from climbers like you

Beta that works for somebody 190cm tall may not work for you.

  • Switch on Climbers like me and the feed shows attempts by people of a similar height, reach and weight.
  • Other climbers see a height band, never your exact numbers, and only if you choose to share it.
  • Posts marked Similar build are the ones worth reading first.

Collect badges as you go

Every climb counts towards something.

  • Dozens of badges: for sends and flashes, for every style from slab to roof, and one-offs like Night Owl for a late send.
  • Each one climbs through Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, three ranks in each, and changes shape as it goes.
  • Pick three favourites. They sit around your photo wherever other climbers see it.
  • Your profile keeps your totals and your hardest send, and you decide who sees your stats and your gyms.

Questions

When can I get it?

Soon. BetaSpot is in closed testing now and is coming to Google Play and the App Store. The buttons at the top of this page will take you there once it is out.

Does it cost anything?

No, it is free. We may add paid features in the future, but nothing you can use for free today will ever go behind a paywall. That would be poor form.

My gym is not in the app. Can I still use it?

Ask for it. Tap Request a gym in the gym list and we add it by hand, with its walls and how it grades once we know them.

I work at a gym or set routes. What can I do?

Send us a message with Send feedback in the app. We are happy to give you extra tools for setting and running your gym.

Which grades does it use?

Whatever your gym uses: V grades, Font grades, or the gym's own coloured circuits.

Where is the scoreboard?

There is no scoreboard or points system on BetaSpot. We want to focus on helping each other based on our capabilities, rather than comparing and ranking.

Do I have to give my height and weight?

No. Every measurement is optional. If you share your height, other climbers see a 5 cm range, never the exact number, and weight works the same way. Anything you do not share is not attached to your posts at all.

Can I post without my name on it?

Yes. An anonymous post shows other climbers no name, no picture and no account. Only our moderators can see who posted it, so abuse can still be dealt with.

Do you sell my data or show ads?

We do not sell your data, and nothing is shared with data brokers. There are no ads or analytics today. If running costs ever mean ads have to come in, the privacy statement will say so first, and the app will tell you it has changed. Read the privacy statement.

Who can join?

Anyone 16 or older.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: go to your profile, tap the menu at the top right, then Edit profile, then Delete my account. It happens straight away. No longer have the app? Ask by email.

How do I get in touch?

Email support@beta-spot.com, or tap Send feedback in the app. Bug reports and ideas are both welcome.
